Lever Block Disassembly Video

July 14, 2025 How-to Video

In this video, the founder of RSS MACLIN, Anthony Ganni, discusses seamer repairs and lever block disassembly.

How to Set First Operation by Anthony Ganni

In this video, the founder of RSS MACLIN, Anthony Ganni, discusses seamer repairs and lever block disassembly.

Steps 1 & 2: Remove Retaining Ring and Cover

The first step is to remove the retaining ring by using a pick to pry the lead edge of the ring. Next, you will remove the cover.

Step 3: Remove the Retaining Bolt

The third step is the remove the retaining bolt through the seaming roll with a 3/16″ allen wrench. The special bolts used have locktite on them and a hole in the middle to grease the bearings. It has a washer with an alignment tab. Then you can remove the bearing.

Step 4: Inspect Bearings

Before removing the rolls, make sure there is no rocking and end play in them. The bearing should not exceed .002 endplay. The new tooling should be set to .0005.

Step 5: Remove Pin

Once that is completed, one of the pins can be removed with the following tools:

  • 3/16″ Allen Wrench
  • 1/4″ Allen Wrench

Step 6: Loosen the Castle Nut

Then, loosen the castle nut. The castle nut holds horizontal adjustment screw in position. The nut is designed to clamp on the pin and hold it in position.

Check for any wear in the threads. If there is any wear, it will make it hard to set and hold the seams. Once the first roll is removed, then remove the second one because you have to flip the lever block in order to get to the next point of removal. Follow the same procedure used for the first roll.

Step 7: Disassemble the Lever Block

After the second roll is removed, flip over the lever block and remove the castle nut.

Use your 5/16″ open end wrench and a socket wrench to remove the elevator screw. Raise the screw high enough to push it out of the assembly. Once the pin is out, remove the other one.

Using a paint marker:

  • Indicate the position of the pin in relation to the lever block.
  • Identify which pin is assigned to each side of the lever block.

At this point, your lever block is fully disassembled.
